Goats have been mainly raised for meat production in the Philippines. However, some farmers in the country have started raising goats for dairy production in recent years. Introduction of goats into small-scale farms is encouraged nowadays because the raising of goats is easier and more economical for farmers compared to large livestock such as cattle and buffalo. In addition, the frozen semen of dairy goats has been produced in the national livestock farm located in the southern Philippines since 2008. The farm has been trying to increase the number and the milk production of crossbred dairy goats using artificial insemination with indigenous breeds. However, there has been a paucity of information available on the development and feed digestibility of the crossbred dairy goats in the country. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to identify the growth and feed utilization of crossbred dairy goats in the southern Philippines.
