The distribution of inorganic fertilizers are increasing over the years in Bhutan, especially where cash crops are cultivated such as in Paro dzongkhags (like a prefecture in Bhutan). In those areas, water and land pollution are probable future problems. In this study, to evaluate the environmental friendliness@of organic farming in Gasa, Bhutan, the water quality of three streams running through cultivated areas will be measured and compared with that in Gabjana village in Paro where the amount of applied inorganic fertilizer is increasing, and also with some places in Japan. How to manage applying organic matters in the field will also be investigated.
