The Bhutanese government takes the leadership in vigorous promotion of environmental conservation measures. It is considered that environmentally friendly agriculture is in place at individual farmers, combining extensive use of organic materials with livestock breeding, and grounded on resource recycling. In this study, researchers stay at a rice farming village, where they study the origins and management for organic materials put into farmland, conduct simple measurements on physical and chemical properties of soil, analyze the data from the viewpoints of soil fertility and resource recycling, and assess environmental friendliness and sustainability of the farmland.
